how it started
In December 2004, roommates Danny, Justin, Derek, Brad, and Michael invited a small group of friends “to come and worship the Lord together” (Ps 24:3). From day one the Lord’s presence became thick in our midst and His Spirit overflowed in our hearts as we exalted the Father together. In the following weeks more and more people showed up until the house was packed full. We were hungry and thirsty for more God in our lives. Nobody had planned it, but the Lord had just birthed a new Bible study for the students of KSU (Ps 127:1).
where we got the name
At around the same time, a staple food for the roommates was Buffalo wings with homemade buffalo sauce. The guys felt that eating together can be a great way to encourage fellowship and community. Naturally, they introduced these “million dollar wings” to the meetings and they were well received. People soon began calling the bible study Wings and Worship.
a house on fire
It appears that the Lord allows people and ministries to go through different times
and seasons in order to help us grow and develop in Him. (Ecclesiastes 3). From the outside everything was going well. People were getting saved, Christians were being discipled, and meetings were often packed, alive, and with energy. We always had money to buy chicken. It seemed that we were in our prime, but some internal conflict amongst the leaders began to surface. In Fall 2005, on a beautiful autumn day, one of the roommates was frying some wings for the upcoming meeting in the garage-- a grease fire broke out. In the spur of the moment, he tried to put the fire out with a water hose, which only made the fire expand. Later, three fire trucks came and doused the fire, which had destroyed the left side of the house. Looking back, this was a huge blessing in disguise. (Romans 8:28)
1st Meeting at KSU
On the exact day of the fire, W.W. had just become an official club at KSU, enabling us to have meetings on campus. At first, it was a little difficult for some to adjust to the new environment. The cozy house, the candle lit rooms, and the way too many couches--were replaced by a conference room, halogen lights, and a bunch of metal chairs. Needless to say the ambience was different, but the Lord was teaching us how to worship Him out of our comfort zones. Many new people came too, because they heard worship songs resounding off the walls of the student center.
Welcome to the 3rd Season!
After much effectual and fervent prayer, on April 13th, 2006, the Lord provided us with a new house that is bigger, less than a mile from campus, and it has a longer driveway to park cars in. God is amazingly awesome! Haggai 2:9 says “The glory of the latter temple shall be greater than the former’, says the Lord of hosts, ‘And in this place I will give peace….”. I know that we are very excited for what the Lord has in store for this ministry and feel that the best is yet to come. We pray that the Lord would use this ministry to spread the gospel, make disciples, and be a house of prayer for KSU students.
